Efthymis Filippou, an exceptionally captivating Greek writer, playwright, and screenwriter, was born on January 18, 1977, in Acharnes, Athens. Initially a journalist and copywriter, he was not involved in filmmaking until his compatriot Yorgos Lanthimos invited him to write scripts, teaching him the craft, for which Filippou is grateful. Renowned for his uniquely surreal, darkly comedic style, he co-wrote with Lanthimos films like Dogtooth (2009), a Cannes winner, Alps (2011), earning the Golden Osella, The Lobster (2015), an Oscar nominee, The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), and Kinds of Kindness (2024). He also collaborated with directors Babis Makridis (Pity 2018) and Athina Rachel Tsangari (Chevalier 2015). His theatrical works include Bloods (2014), Excuse 4&5 (2016), Rob (2017), George (2020), and Etymologies (2024). Filippou published his first novel, Someone talking to himself while holding a glass of milk, in 2007. Which was circulated in editions by the Greek Ministry of Public Health. He has earned numerous awards and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2016, reflecting his global impact on cinema and theater.
